2011 Vauxhall Astra Elite 2.0 CDTi Review: (Nicholas Potter, Sales Manager, 21st Century Internet Ltd)
This has to be one of my favourite models from Vauxhall. I currently drive the vauxhall Astra Elite on a 2011 plate and love all the extra's you get as standard.
I also added the options for Tyre Pressure monitoring (for £99 it could save you £130 for a new tyre if you run it flat), SAT NAV, Front parking sensor (always makes it easier to park in tight spots) and Vauxhall's famous Premium forward lighting pack which has the intelligent adaptive froward lighting. I find this particularly good on country roads and when indicating down a dark junction. When reversing you have a 180 degree angle of light front the front ensuring you can see more.
The Bi-Xenon headlights are also very bright and light up the road well ahead. The car also seem to know when you need more close vision of the side of the road, for example when driving in low light and your wiper are on the bean spreads to cover a wider angle until you speed up and the light more to view more of the road ahead.
The stork control are very easy to use, including the steering controls for voice dialing, stereo control and cruise control.
Considering I used to drive a Vauxhall Omega Elite, I'm suprised how quiet it is on the road and comfortable on long distances . If you removed the badges from the car most people would not belive it was a Vauxhall due to the qualit look and feel of the interior and exterior. The leather interior with the white stitching looks fantastic and are very comfortable, with the extendable lower leg support.
I also use this car to tow, which the Astra Elite 2.0 CDTI model can tow 1.5 tons which is more than enough to tow a large single axel. Down the toll roads in France I achieved 40 MPG without to much problem. It holds the road well and feels very stable, but to be honest I would prefer a bigger car but this car does a very good job and great value for money.
On a long run keeping my speed down and after i had done over 10,000 miles to run the engine in, the car will achieve just over 68 MPG whihc mean you can get nearly 700 miles out of one tank of diesel. It seems the car does more MPG the more miles I do. The car has now done 26,000 miles and will do 56 miles to the gallon on a average run to work. As you can tell im one very happy owner and would not consider anything other than a Vauxhall. I had the option to have other models, but when you look at the spec's I found that this car offers far more for my money.
I have driven the Astra VXR model, this is a lot of fun and looks stunning. The only problem for me, is the size of the doors as it's a three door model only and the MPG, but you don't buy this model for it's efficiency. Parking in tight spots and getting out can be a little tricky. The ride is a little tough and the road noise it greatly increased if that sort of thing bothers you when driving a performance car like this.
The next car I would consider is the Vauxhall Insignia Elite Tourer for next year, only due to the boot size and towing capacity.
